AI on Substack
So I came across this note 👇
And the following restacks of that note, continuing that conversation, 👇
👇
And it got me thinking..
I get the anger, and frustration over AI. It's a scary new thing. A new thing that makes it that much easier to question reality.
This world is crazy enough already, who needs one more thing added to the list?
With any new thing, there's always a fear involved. How much will AI change about our lives? How much will it take from us? Our jobs, our art, our soul? Humans don't like the unknown, it's biologically wired in us to be leery of things we don't understand.
There are very mixed views on AI, most of them bring up valid and very interesting points.
Personally I believe that while AI can and has been used for truly bad things, AI in itself is a tool. To be used, by humans, for what they will. AI in and of itself is not evil.
The Ethics of AI
Tricking people into thinking you have talent, by using AI just for attention and accolades is fine. That's on you but it's not really a problem. If people want to consume sub par content, that is on them. It's not hurting anyone.
Making money off of content that is openly admitted as AI is also fine.
Making money off something you claim as your own while really being AI with little to no talent of your own used, is wrong.
Using AI to help or supplement your own skills, is not wrong. AI is a tool and should be used as such.
I use AI to help me with my own projects, but the creativity is still coming from me. With as much, if not most of the creativity coming from me, not the AI. Interestingly enough, i don't use autocorrect or spell check.
We don't need AI detectors or blockers. Having monetization removed for AI projects, or at least mostly AI projects make sense. YouTube has been doing that. Honestly tho, it should still be a human team checking things for AI. If humans can't tell the difference, than maybe it's not an issue.
There's not a moral issue with using AI. Anymore than it is a moral issue to use any other tool.
In Conclusion, a Human Problem, not an AI problem.
AI is a different world, it's true, but the situation isn't. People thought computers were going to ruin civilization, and take away too many jobs from people. And look at our world now. AI is just the next big thing. Yes there's issues and problems to be faced. It SHOULD encourage us as humans to look forward to the challenge, encourage responsible use of AI, and maybe see how we can be better.
AI doesn't have a soul. It doesn't have emotions or a heart. It will never fully replace true human art. It's a machine and a tool. And if it does truly become a danger to human art and skill, then maybe we have a culture problem. Too much demand for cheap, easy and soulless entertainment and pleasure.
And that's a human problem. Not an AI problem

It's seems that at worst, AI is like Steve Rodgers serum, it amplifes what is already in the person. It has no agency of its own and can only go where directed.
I really enjoyed this post! I love your perspective on this issue; how it doesn’t become a problem until people start to claim that it is their own work. It’s really made me rethink my opinion on AI, because it’s just a tool (and there’s really nothing wrong with that!) so there’s really not a problem with AI itself, but with some of the ways humans use it to replace writing, art, etc. When used right (as a tool, like for editing) it doesn’t become an issue! Thanks for this post, it has really changed my own perspective!
